Planning for an autism class or special class

Pleanóir supports autism (ASD) classes, special classes and special schools in Irish primary schools. You record each pupil once — targets, communication, sensory and regulation, and independence — and your plans are written from that, in your own words.

The pupil record

In Year Setup you add each pupil by initials, with their targets in your own words. For a special class you can also record, per pupil:

  • Communication needs — how the pupil communicates, and how staff communicate with them.
  • Sensory and regulation needs — what helps, and what you notice before dysregulation.
  • Social, play and independence needs — self-care, life skills, play and interaction.
  • Area of need, plan type, support model, group size and support hours where they apply.

Alongside that, the class-level questions cover the type of class, the staff team, the individual programmes in place, communication supports, sensory and regulation supports, routines and visual supports, self-care and life skills, and inclusion arrangements.

Special Class plans

The Special Class Support Plan is written for one pupil, from that pupil's record. It covers:

  • Pupil profile and strengths
  • Communication and interaction
  • Sensory needs and regulation
  • Routines, structure and visual supports
  • Transitions — arrival, activity changes, room changes, unexpected change, home time
  • Self-care, independence and life skills
  • Individual learning targets with success criteria
  • Staff roles, review and the evidence you'll gather

Support Plans, Pupil Profiles, Behaviour Support Plans and Classroom Support Plans also switch to individual-programme framing once your setup says special class or special school. Every document is editable in the browser and downloads as a Word file.

Our promise

No invented supports, systems or therapies

Plans are built only from what you enter. If you haven't named a communication system, a sensory resource, an agency or an inclusion arrangement, it does not appear. Each document carries a visible “Built from what you entered” note listing the details behind it, so a principal or inspector can check the source of anything on the page.
